2023 wasn’t my best year. What began as promising from my work-from-home contracting “business” turned into one cancelled project after another. Finally when I realized it just wasn’t going to work I found the job market shockingly slow (at least for what I do). Savings dwindling, my back taking way too long to heal from an annoying injury, I often turned to a few nightly beers just so I didn’t have to think about it. I stopped caring about being in shape. But, I’m finding, especially as you get older, live doesn’t let you do that forever (unless you enjoy feeling yourself deteriorate!)
I always knew it was temporary. But “temporary” turned into a long time. My big running idea became neglected. Maybe I just needed a break. It still felt like a new thing to me. But the break was too long. Now, my weight back at over 270, what are the odds I’ll be able to turn it around?
Finally, I managed to find a new job. Got the new job – not without it’s challenges, but .. pay is decent, commute is decent, and it’s partially remote anyway. The remote aspect is nicer than I expected. Something about not having a commute (or having to keep up professional appearances every day) just drains a surprisingly less amount of energy out of me. I’m still paying down a bit of debt I incurred as my previous income vanished and the job hunt took forever, but soon (well, in a couple more months) that will be dealt with as well.
My back is still slowly healing, most days it’s not even something I really think about anymore. The winter was mild, and yeah I failed to take advantage of it – but spring is looking really nice so far. Weather is good. I’m running again. Just did a 24 hour fast. Actually thinking of turning it into 48 hours. I’ve got a lot of weight to drop, a lot of cardio to get back, but what are the odds I turn it around?
Pretty good?
We’ll see..
